Our second batch of Limoncello of the citrus season focuses on the classic Sorrento Lemon “Ovale di Sorrento.”
This stunning fruit is prized for its dense fragrant essential oil-packed peel, which is responsible for it’s delicious natural creamy texture.
Although the variety originates from Sorrento, we’ve chosen to use citrus grown at The Todoli Citrus Foundation in Valencia. This exciting project was set up to protect and conserve the Valencian agrarian landscape as well as preserve and promote the world’s wonderful varieties of citrus fruit, where they are now growing over 500 varieties.
The beautiful city of Sorrento is also known as the gateway to the Amalfi coast, and holds a special place in our hearts.
Tucked away on the farthest point of the Amalfi Coast is the small untouched fishing village of Nerano. Travelling around the bay you’ll find a beautiful restaurant with rooms built into the cliff face called Conca del Sogno, where we married in 2019. The striking image on the label was taken on that very day.
We macerated the fragrant zest for 3 weeks in steel, aggravating the maceration daily, before spiking with a herbaceous sage distillate.
This batch is a nod to a classic. Zesty and zingy, with a really creamy texture, finishing with a gentle bitter edge and just a little sweetness.
NB: This is an all natural product made with a high concentration of lemon zest. It is minimally filtered for a rustic and authentic finish and therefore naturally high in pure essential oils (which give it it’s intense complex flavour, cloudiness and creaminess.)
The oils will naturally form a ring at the bottle neck as they never fully dissolve – this is completely safe and to be expected. Simply store in the fridge and shake well before serving to reintegrate any oils.
